Baldwin junior varsity off to 4-0 start in boys basketball competition

BALDWIN —  The holidays are here and the Baldwin boys junior varsity basketball team is enjoying a 4-0 record.

The Panthers recorded win No. 4 at Mason County Eastern last week and have previous wins over Muskegon Heights, Walkerville and Pentwater.

Against MCE, Baldwin won 59-50, after leading 2016 at halftime. Marcellous Wilkerson had 20 points while Deondra McDonald added 12.

Coach Shawn Williams is now getting his team ready for the January portion of the schedule.

“We’re playing good team basketball, starting on the defensive end,” Williams said. “We’re getting the ball out on the fast break and getting a lot of easy buckets.”

Williams has noticed that his team keeps getting better.

“We’re progressing good,” he said. “This is a real good group of kids. They compete. We’re probably playing 10 guys steadily but everyone has played in all four games.”

A recent roster had the other Baldwin JV players listed as Blake Dockery, Gensis Lewis, Malik Paollard, Antwaun Harris, Deshawn Rambus, Ahmad Goram, Maleke Palmer, Keion Mitchell, Devin Hallenbeck, Cole Swole, Lakie Donald, Armondo Jennings and Terrell Rogers.

Upcoming opponents are Onekama Jan. 6, North Pointe Christian Jan. 10 and Manistee Catholic Jan. 13 on the road, and Brethren Jan. 8 and Bear Lake Jan. 15 at home.

“All of them are tough,” Williams said. “We prepare as if we’re playing a tough team every day. It’s about developing us.”
