Baldwin junior eyes another trip to disc golf state finals

BALDWIN — Christina McCarthy plays in several sports at Baldwin but is enjoying action in disc golf this summer.

A junior this upcoming season, McCarthy made it to state finals in disc golf in 2012 and won the title. It’s her third year in the sport. Her first season was her best.

“Last year I hardly got to play because I had a college thing going on,” McCarthy said.

Her first day this season was Tuesday and she was happy with her performance.

Her experience allows her to concentrate more on her target at the basket, McCarthy said.

“I want to do my best without my handicap,” she said.

The season goes through the end of August and leads into the state finals Labor Day weekend. Games at the Baldwin High School course are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

McCarthy is also in softball, bowling and volleyball. Disc golf is her second most enjoyable sport behind bowling.

“I rank bowling as my top two because it’s more of a singles deal,” she said.

McCarthy is hoping to finish high again in the disc golf state finals.

“The key to having success is being able to dedicate your time and practice as much as possible,” McCarthy said.
