BALDWIN – It’s been a productive two weeks for Baldwin volleyball coach Duane Roberts, who has been conducting an open gym.

This is the second and final week of the camp.

“We’re running a full program camp session together,” he said. “It’s the middle school, JV and varsity. At this time, I don’t have hired coaches for JV or junior high. We have some interest and I believe they’re still taking applications. It’s been a good turnout. I believe it’s been around 20 girls. They’re working hard. I’m thankful they can take time out. I’m thankful for my wife and family to make sure we can put this on in June.

“Looking at it, we have a lot of first-year players all around. (Monday) I have five of my varsity girls back from last year’s team and some incoming players.”

Roberts doesn’t plan on any other activities until the first day of official practices on Aug. 8. Schools will be starting on Aug. 29.

Participants included eighth grader Hailie Simmons.

“It’s been fun today,” she said. “I like that we get to practice and learn.”
