Baldwin hunter reflects on strong turkey season

BALDWIN – Turkey season ended more than three weeks ago and it was a good one for Greg Nichols Sr. and his family in Baldwin.

“We got four birds between us,” Nichols said, referring to his sons Greg Jr. and Harold Nichols, and Harold’s two sons. “We all had the first season (in mid-April). It was kind of an exciting year for us. There were a lot of birds, nice birds too.”

All the birds they shot were called in.

“For some reason, they all kind of stayed together,” Nichols said. “Usually they make a run for it. But this time, they stayed together.

“There hasn’t been much else going on. But I’ve been fishing.”

The Nichols participated in Saturday’s 3-gun shoot as did other Lake County Sportsman Club members including Dan Tagliereni of Reed City.

“I love shooting.” Tagliereni said. “It was a fun day. You meet new people. I got to use guns I hadn’t shot in awhile.”
