BALDWIN — Baldwin has appointed a new girls basketball coach.

Athletic director Scott Pedigo said the school board recently appointed Nikki Bergman to the position at its meeting earlier this month.

“We hired her as a PE teacher and she’s coming out of a school from intercity Indianapolis,” Pedigo said. “She’ll coach middle school volleyball and varsity girls basketball for us.”

Pedigo indicated Baldwin would be only having a JV girls basketball team for the 2019-20 season.

The school didn’t have girls basketball last winter for lack of numbers.

The program has struggled for a winning girls basketball record in recent seasons and has had seven different coaches in the past 10 years.

The Baldwin girls compete in the West Michigan D League.

Baldwin superintendent Rick Heitmeyer confirmed on Wednesday the school board hired JJ Eads as varsity boys basketball coach at its meeting on Tuesday, and also some elementary and middle school coaches.

Eads has been varsity boys coach at Reed City the past three seasons. He was previously athletic director and girls basketball coach at Crossroads Charter Academy. Next week’s Star will have more details.
