Baldwin gymnast shines at meet

BALDWIN — Flipstar Gymnastics hosted its first meet of the season, the annual Flip Flop for Fall meet and class Show-Off on Nov. 12-13.

Flipstar had over 150 gymnasts participate in six sessions over the two days including visiting gyms from Lowell (RAYG) and Grand Haven (TriCities YMCA). There were two sessions of Show-Offs for the Flipstar recreational class kids, a fun meet for pre-team gymnasts and three sessions of competitive gymnastics.

Kiela Brooks of Baldwin competed in the Xcel Platinum division.

Flipstar had event champions on vault with Lindy Murphy (37.15) and Brooks (9.5) and floor exercise with Erin Reilly (9.3) and Brooks (9.55). Lindy Murphy (37.15) and Alex Kovar (35.55) were all-around champions in their respective age divisions. Andrea Shoop was second all-around (35.4), and Reilly (35.85) and Brooks (34.65) were third in their age divisions.

“It was a great meet,” coach Aimee Goff said. “Most girls were competing at a level that is new to them, some were competing in their first competitive (scoring) meet and for some it was their first meet ever. It was a wonderfully successful weekend that gave everyone a chance to try out their new routines for this season.  I am really proud of how well they performed for it being so early in the competitive season. I am looking forward to all of the great things to come this year.”
