Baldwin girls score first conference win

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s girls basketball team notched its first West Michigan D League victory of the season with a 48-22 win over Bear Lake last Thursday.

“It was an outstanding team win,” Baldwin coach Doug Bolles said.

Sophomore Diamond Cannon led Bladwin with 17 points and freshman Amani Freeman followed with 13 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks.

Cannon also had 10 rebounds and three blocks. Freshman Jaylee Warren chipped in with eight points.

“Sophomore Myah Lewis played stellar defense on the Lakers leading scorer, Yuki Babinec, holding her to two points,” Bolles said. “In the first game a month ago between the two teams, Babinec scorched the Panthers for 22 points. It was a huge overall team win.”

Baldwin had a 24-9 halftime lead.

“We just kept the pressure on,” Bolles said. “We deserved this win, theses young ladies have been working extremely hard and their hard work is finally paying dividend. I’m so proud of this group of young ladies.”
