Baldwin girls fall twice to Brethren

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s softball team fell to 1-5 with 22-3 and 13-2 West Michigan D League losses to Brethren on Monday.

Shay Scott scored two runs and Bailey Randall scored one for Baldwin the first game. Makayla George took the loss for Baldwin.

Riley Drilling took the loss in the second game and was relieved by Marissa Wroblewski.

“Riley did phenomenal,” Baldwin coach Bob Hilts said. “She did a really good job. So did (Wroblewski) when she came in to clean it up. Miranda Roberts had two hits and Scott one hit. They’re younger pitchers and don’t have a lot of velocity. But they’re throwing strikes.”

Baldwin is at Manistee Catholic on Thursday.

“We have to get it rolling somehow, so I guess we’ll start using these younger people and get things going,” Hilts said.

George has been struggling with an ailing foot, Hilts noted, and played first base the second game.

Hilts has been encouraged with Scott’s hitting.

“Miranda (Roberts had two hits,” Hilts said. “Miranda is always stellar. I can’t say enough for her. Kiera Barker was as solid as ever. I can (keep) talking about these girls.”

Baldwin is home Monday against Crossroads.
