Baldwin girls end basketball season at 5-16

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s girls basketball season came to a close with a 43-31 loss to Manistee Catholic Central in the Class D district semifinal at Pentwater on March 4.

Makayla George had 13 points and Jheresa Lewis 10 for Baldwin. The Panthers ended the season at 5-16.

It was George’s third varsity season as a junior.

“We played our hearts out,” George said. “We left everything on the court.”

The Panthers had five wins and put themselves in a position for a few more, George noted. Improved defense was a key, she said.

“Better defense led to our offense,” she said. “My favorite game was Traverse City Christian when I scored the highest in my career (32 points).”

It was her best season, George indicated.

“Everyone improved on at least one thing that they could improve on,” she said. “The future looks bright. Everyone goes to camp this summer and we’ll all improve together.”
