BALDWIN — Jenna Johnson is among some Baldwin freshman girls basketball players who will get their shot at the varsity level this season.

This marks the third week of practice for the Panthers who tip off their season at home on Dec. 2 against Bear Lake.

Johnson played a prominent role on the volleyball team and hopes to be the same for basketball.

A lot of decisions are still being made and Johnson isn’t quite sure yet what her role will be.

Her position may be power forward, Johnson indicated.

“I’m good at shooting, but I’m not great at it,” she said.

The Panthers have been doing a lot of running under new coach Lee Vickers, Johnson noted.

“Some of us played before,” said Johnson, who played junior high last year. “Handling the pressure will be a major challenge,” Johnson added.

Janya Hakwins is a senior on the Baldwin team. She’s decided to pkay basketball for the first time.

“I wanted to try something new,” she said. “I guess I’m a good dribbler.”

Quick feet is a strength, Hawkins said.
