Baldwin girls basketball coach begins practices

Rusty Fullerton

BALDWIN – Rusty Fullerton is extremely optimistic there will be girls basketball this winter at Baldwin.

Fullerton, the varsity girls coach, opened practices on Monday and had six girls. He said there were two others he was expecting to have on the team but they weren’t able to make it on Monday.

“At this point, it looks like I’ll be fielding a team,” Fullerton said. “I recruited a few girls and they recruited a few. We’re still recruiting. ”

Baldwin did not have numbers for a team the past two season. The Panthers had a JV squad for 2019-20. There was also no team for 2018-19. The last varsity season was 2017-18.

For this reason, Fullerton admitted there isn’t an extensive amount of playing experience on his roster. Some have a limited amount of middle school experience.

Baldwin has three seniors including Autumn Heighton.

The 20-game schedule has 14 listed as varsity games and six as JV. The first game is Nov. 29 at home against Cadillac Heritage’s varsity.
