BALDWIN — Flipstar Gymnastics Center gymnasts of Ludington competed in its first competitive meet of the season on Nov. 22.

The team started the season strong with a second-place team finish in the Xcel Gold division, Aimee Goff of the Flipstar Gymnastics Center said.

The Xcel Gold team was led by all-around champions Kiela Brooks (36.775), of Baldwin, and Jessica Gutowski (35.95) of Manistee, in their respective age divisions. Kiela also was the champion on vault (9.15), uneven bars (9.35) and floor exercise (9.45) as well as runner-up on balance beam (8.825).

Gutowski also was the champion on balance beam (9.0) as well as runner-up on vault (9.0) and fourth on floor exercise (9.15).

“I am really proud of how all of the girls did with this being their first competitive meet of the season,” Goff said. “Over half of the girls that participated in this meet have moved up to a new level this year, so there were many new skills and routines to prepare.

“This is an early meet as far as the gymnastics competition season goes and these girls did a great job getting their routines in competition for this early in the season. We actually have several girls from Baldwin that attend our gymnastics center for recreational classes, but (Brooks) is on our competitive team.”
