BALDWIN — She’s a freshman, but Alissa Bernard is getting ready to play a key role for Baldwin’s girls basketball team this season.

Baldwin opens its season Friday at home against Bear Lake.

Baldwin also plays at home Dec. 9 with Pentwater, Dec. 14 with Brethren and Dec. 15 with Grand Traverse Academy.

Bernard played plenty of basketball at Baldwin on the elementary and junior high levels. Her role has usually been at wing guard. She’s adjusted to the high school game. Dribbling will be a main role.

“You have to look up and don’t look at the ball,” she said.

As a shooter, “I”m OK,” she said.

Bernard is confident she’ll be a good free-throw shooter. “Concentration,” she said, is critical.

Bernard also hopes to be an effective jump shooter. “So you have to make sure you’re open,” she said.

Bernard also hopes to be an effective defensive player. The Panthers have been making plenty of progress.
