BALDWIN — Baldwin football coaches are getting ready for the first day of practices on Monday.

Watkins said coaches were appointed last week, pending board approval. The weight room was set to be open last week for any players that were able to come.

“We’ll probably focus on getting our equipment together,” Watkins said. “We’ll start with the first of the month like anyone else and go from there.”

This is a down week when coaches can’t be meeting with players.

School starts the first day of practice on Monday. Watkins said practices will start right after school.

The season kicks off at Okemos on Aug. 25 with the Panthers playing Camden-Frontier in 8-player football action.

Watkins and his coaches were doing inventory on equipment and pads on Tuesday while speculating on turnout numbers when practices start on Monday.

“We don’t know about physicals yet,” Watkins said. “They need to make arrangements to get the physical.”

Watkins said the first days of practices will focus on conditioning. Players can practice with pads later in the week. Baldwin is still working on having a scrimmage on either Aug. 16 or 17.

The first home game is on Aug. 31 with Bear Lake. The Panthers are home against Mesick on Sept. 7.
