Baldwin football team picks up academic honors

BALDWIN —  The accolades keep pouring in for the Baldwin football team.

The Panthers, who were 10-2, conference and district champion this season, and led by first-team all-state quarterback Brandon Childress, have been named to the all-state academic team honorable mention list by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association in Division 8.

The top four teams earn all-state. Baldwin was ranked fifth, based on the top 11 players accumulative GPA, which was 3.706 in Baldwin’s case. It’s the highest the football team has ever been ranked.

Last year, Baldwin was ranked 15th with a GPA of 3.46. For the last two years, Baldwin has earned honorable mention academic all-state status.

The announcement was made earlier this month.
