BALDWIN  --His football team won the last two games of the season to finish at 2-5 and Baldwin coach Robert Watkins has reason to look forward to 2023.

“I was extremely pleased with how we ended the season,” Watkins said. “I was saying to myself I wish we had everybody early enough. I think we started to click during the middle of the season and we would have done better as far as our record is concerned. We didn’t have a scrimmage and we didn’t have enough kids to start the season.

“They started slowly. If we would have been there early enough, I felt we would have been a lot better off than what our record indicated. Overall, for the younger guys to step up and fill some spots was good and my seniors like Carmelo (Lindsey) and Gabe (Vandergeld) help the team together until we got everybody going. I had more than two seniors but those were the two who kind of stood out. Carmelo is the only one to play all four years. The other four seniors, Gabe, Jay Cutler and Christopher Wilson only played two years. Gabe made up a lot of ground and was one of our main leaders.”

There were 16 players on the team.

“We have a lot of young guys and I don’t know how many are coming back,” Watkins said.
