Baldwin dashes past MCE

BALDWIN — Baldwin made it 5-0 on Friday with a 70-56 home boys’ basketball victory over Custer-Mason County Eastern.

Karlos Perez netted his season high of 31 points while Andon Ware added 23 and Brandon Childress put in 11.

The Panthers trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but outscored MCE 30-13 in the second quarter for a 40-28 halftime advantage.

“The problem I had with Friday night is we (only) played well enough to win. When we wanted to we put it on...then we’d get lazy. We’re not reaching our ability,” said coach Scott Pedigo. “We’re playing good enough to win. I’m happy when we win. But I wasn’t happy with the way we played. We took too many lapses.”

The Panthers are 4-0 in the West Michigan D League. The win set the Panthers up for games this week with Onekama on Tuesday and Brethren on Thursday.

“Onekama is decent,” Pedigo said. “I know one of their best players isn’t playing right now but I don’t know what’s going on. If he comes back, it could be a whole different team.”

“Brethren plays hard and tough,” Pedigo said. “We can’t take anyone for granted. They’ll be similar to Onekama. If you can jump on them right away, they’re a kind of team that might fold up. I want to see us play a complete game. We’re not playing a complete game.”
