Baldwin boys overpower Walkerville

WALKERVILLE — Deondra McDonald scored 21 points while Blake Dockery added 18, Malik Pollard 10, Scott Ascomb eight and Armondo Jennings seven in a West Michigan D League 73-41 boys basketball win on Thursday for Baldwin (7-1).

Baldwin led 14-7 after the first quarter, 44-22 at halftime and 64-27 after the third quarter.

Baldwin’s Ahmad Goram added four and La’Kie Donald one.

Ascomb, a transfer student, had to sit out the first semester and most recently became eligible.

“We played well defensively,” Baldwin coach Scot Pedigo said. “It’s nice when everyone gets in. Everyone got to play. We’re getting back to playing defense like we did before. We’re getting healthy.”

Walkerville defeated Crossroads earlier in the season, and CCA recently beat Baldwin.

“We played very good tonight,” Pedigo said. “Defensively, we played very well. That was a big difference.”

Baldwin is 7-1 and faced Manistee Catholic on Wednesday and plays Bear Lake on Friday on the road.

“It looks like (Manistee Catholic) is struggling a little bit,” Pedigo said on Monday. “They’re having a rough time. Hopefully we come to play.”

The Panthers defeated Bear Lake at home earlier this season.

“I watched a film of that (Monday),” Pedigo said., “Hopefully we’ll play better ball than we did the first time. They out-shot us and we were lucky enough to hit our free throws. It will be a tough matchup on Friday.”
