BALDWIN — This marks the second week of practice for the Baldwin boys basketball team, which is gearing up for the season opener next month.

The Panthers will open at Pentwater on Dec. 8 and be at home Dec. 10 against Walkerville. Another home game prior to the holiday break is Dec. 15 with Mason County Eastern.

The Panthers are defending West Michigan D League and Class D district champions.

Coach Kevin Dillard, in his second season, has 11 players on his roster.

Returning players include seniors Da’Ron Copeland and Brandon Beane, and junior Deondra McDonald and  sophomore Blake Dockery from the junior varsity. Armondo Jennings is new to the team and is expected to be a valuable contributor.

The Panthers were scheduled to scrimmage White Cloud after Thanksgiving.

Right now, it’s all about getting ready for the season.

“We’ll put some plays in and get them acclimated to what we want them to do,” Dillard said.

The Panthers graduated some key talent from last season, including Class D Player of the Year Brandon Childress. But Dillard still expects to have a competitive team.

“If we play together, I think we’ll be all right,” Dillard said. “I think we’ll make some noise in the conference.”
