BALDWIN – Baldwin’s bowling team competed in the Division 4 finals at Battle Creek last weekend.

The team finals were Friday at M66 Lanes. Baldwin was third among 18 competing teams with a 3,138 in the qualifier but lost in the first round to eventual champ Plymouth Christian 1,108-962.

The individuals were on Saturday. Of the 60 bowlers, Jesse Pancio finished 16th by one pin for the final qualifying spot at 1,116. He lost to Ethan Lindsey of Burr Oak 472-349 in the first round.

Adam McClure was 50th at 926 in the qualifying round. For the girls, Rachel Carpenter was 53rd at 776.

“Things went pretty well,” Baldwin coach Duane Roberts said. “For the first time, Baldwin placed in the top 8 to move onto bracket play for teams for guys. We ended up losing to the new team state champions, Plymouth Christian. We did have some decent games bowled with a couple 200-plus games by Jesse Pancio and Jalik Hawkins. Jese Pancio placed into the qualifying 16 for individuals on Saturday. He lost to last year's state champion in the first rounds of the tournament bracket.

“Adam McClure and Rachael Carpenter both gave stellar performances in their bowling debuts at states. I am proud of my team overall and am looking forward to rebuilding the guys’ team to stay just as competitive, and the developing of the girls' team.”
