Baldwin bowlers enter holiday break

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s bowling teams are off until the new year after getting out to a solid start.

The Panthers competed Dec. 13 at the Baldwin Bowling Center against Scottville.

The girls team won their match, while the Baldwin boys lost.

Top bowlers have been Brittany Bowling and Christina McCarthy for the girls and Brandon Childress for the boys.

“He makes practices a couple times a week and also has bowled in the meets,” Park said. “He gets in when he can. We only practice two to three times a week.”

Other new boy bowlers are Tyler and Alan Clugston, Maverick Fisher and Damon Nichols. Childress, Fisher and Nichols are also on the Baldwin boys basketball team. Childress is a Mr. Basketball candidate.

“We work around the (basketball) schedule,” Park said. “They’re pretty good bowlers.”

Heading into the holiday break, both Baldwin bowling teams are 1-1.

“The potential is good,” Park said. “They need a little bit of work. They just have to put it all together.”

Baldwin bowled at Countryside Lanes against Mason County Central last weekend.

Coach Nick Miller acknowledged that he had a lot of first-year bowlers with the seniors.

Among the other bowlers are Reese Drilling, Brian Bashaw and Brandon Ritler.

Brandon Childress has high game so far this season at 204.

It’s now holiday break for the team and Miller said regular practices will resume the week of Jan. 4 although bowlers can come in prior to that. The next high school action is Jan. 10 at the Gate in Big Rapids with Big Rapids Crossroads acting as hosts.
