Baldwin basketball team tops Mason County Eastern

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s boys basketball team returned from the holiday break in a triumphant way with a 78-51 win on the road Thursday at Mason County Eastern.

Deondra McDonald scored 29 points, while Blake Dockery had 15 and Malik Pollard added 14 points. There was other scoring scattered among various players.

“I started the game (with different starters) and we just made our way through the game,” Baldwin coach Scott Pedigo said. “We got a lead and kept it. I had a couple of guys who rolled their ankle last week. They could have played, but it’s one of those things that I could probably give them some games to rest. I could probably get through (last) week and not play them.”

He was referring particularly to Ahmad Goram and Armondo Jennings.

“They probably could have played, but I didn’t want to take a chance,” Pedigo said.

The Panthers were able to get the effort needed to post the victory over Mason County Eastern.

“Guys who usually don’t play a lot got a lot of minutes, and that was good for them,” Pedigo said. “I was a little disappointed defensively with the points. But we got the win and got to rest some guys.”

The Panthers entered this week with a 5-0 record overall and 4-0 in the conference.

A scheduled game with Grand Rapids Ellington on Tuesday was postponed because of the weather. There was no further information on a rescheduling date.
