BALDWIN — Two Baldwin baseball players have been named to the West Michigan D League all-conference team announced recently.

Baldwin athletic director Scott Pedigo said.

Ryan Kolenbrander, senior, was named to the second team, and Isaah Defrece was named to the honorable mention list.

Kolenbrander was a pitcher and catcher for the Panther baseball team.

He was the No. 1 pitcher and the team’s top hitter. Kolenbrander played football and basketball and bowled at Baldwin.

DeFrece was an infielder and another top hitter on the team.

Baldwin’s baseball season ended in the Division 4 district at Custer- Mason County Eastern in late May with a 6-1 loss to Pentwater, which went on to take the tournament title.

Kolenbrander was the losing pitcher but had a strong performance for the Panthers. He threw a complete seven-inning game. He struck out six batters and allowed one home run. Kolenbrander also had two hits.

“I thought we played very well compared to the beginning of the year against this team,” Baldwin assistant coach Zach Engelhart said. “We were able to take Pentwater to a complete game.”

Engelhart said he’s hopeful his players will continue to play ball during the summer. The school’s balanced academic program makes it challenging to get athletes out for summer sports. But he indicated he is still hopeful of having some type of summer activity.
