Baldwin athletes ready for track regionals Friday

BALDWIN  — Friday is a big day for Baldwin athletes with the Division 4 track and field regionals set for Saugatuck High School.

Athletes in each event will eye a qualifying spot for the state finals on May 30. Athletes need to finish in the top two in their events or meet a qualifying standard.

Baldwin’s athletes finished competing last week in the West Michigan D League with the final conference meet at Brethren.

Freshman Blake Dockery took third in the long jump, which made him honorable mention all-conference. His effort led the entire team, boys and girls.

“Diamond Cannon did well for us in the 200-meter dash,” coach Scott Pedigo said. “She’s a freshman, but did real well. Makayla George has been hurt all year. She hasn’t had too many chances.”

First-place finishers at the conference meet received first team all-league honors, while runners-up were on the second team. Third-place finishers earned honorable mention honors.

“It’s a pretty tough regional,” Pedigo said. “Everybody is eligible to do it. We have about 12 kids total we’re taking down there. Long jump seems to be our best event right now.”

The state finals will end the season.
