Baldwin approves hiring of new coach

BALDWIN — The Baldwin High School varsity sports program will take on a new look this season, starting with the head coaching position for basketball and volleyball.

The Baldwin Board of Education met with Panther athletic director Abe Williams Tuesday night and approved the appointment of Antoinette Rewa as the varsity coach for volleyball in the fall and girls basketball in the winter.

Rewa served as junior varsity volleyball coach last season and will replace Sonya Lund, who resigned after the 2010 season. P.T. Jones resigned as Baldwin girls coach after the 2010-11 campaign ended. Rewa will also fill that spot.

“She has some good ideas,” Williams said. “The kids responded to her as JV coach in volleyball. I know she went with the kids over to the Gus Macker (basketball tournament in Ludington last week) to help raise money for the program so they buy some incidental things they would like.”

Bob Hilts will be the junior varsity volleyball coach while Jones will be the middle school skipper.

For basketball, while Rewa is the head skipper, Phyllis and Erica Tate will be the JV coaches and Theria Perry will be the middle school coach.

Meanwhile, the high school gym will be usable until Aug. 1.

The floor will be repainted and refinished, Williams said, noting that any summer indoor activities will go to the elementary gym.
