Baldwin JV boys win over Crossroads

BALDWIN — Baldwin’s junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Crossroads Charter Academy, 47-35, at home on Jan. 12.

Andre Hobbs had 17 points for Baldwin. Derrick Hossler and Isaiah Defreece scored eight apiece.

The win improved the Baldwin JV record to 4-2.

“I was impressed with the guys coming back with no school (in recent days) and a lack of practice,” Watkins said. “We managed to squeak one out.”

Watkins acknowledged that Hobbs had a strong offensive game. But there were some other bright spots.

“I was impressed with our defense,” Watkins said.

Shaundell Dukes, who has led the Panthers in recent games in scoring, was out-of-town, Watkins said, and did not play against CCA.

Other Baldwin JV players are Lance Donald, Darion Hater, Jaquinten Barbie, Dexter Hossler, Darrin Thomas and Zach Abbott.

The Panthers were scheduled to play Kalamazoo Phoenix at home on Saturday. But because Phoenix didn’t have enough players, it turned out to be a 4-on-4 scrimmage.

A Tuesday game with Grand Traverse Academy was postponed because of the weather. Baldwin plays at Walkerville on Thursday.
