BALDWIN – Erica Grier Anderson provided details of the presentation at Baldwin High School on July 23 during an alumni program, at halftime of a basketball game, to pay tribute to former Baldwin administrator Al Nichols.

“I actually started this quest last year when I thought it was time for Mr. Al Nichols to be honored for his outstanding work as a principal at Baldwin High and elementary Schools and as an outstanding citizen of the Baldwin area,” Anderson said, “I contacted his wife Troycie back in February asking for her blessing, letting her know it was to be a surprise for him and I received it. I asked her for a few people who have been close to the heart of Al, and she gave me five people. Three of them were there to speak their sentiments with Duran Watkins, and Mr. and Mrs. Abe and Yvonne Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Daryl and Kathy Price live in Florida and couldn’t attend, so I read their tribute.

“I purchased a blue crystal tower that was delayed and could not be presented that day, and my brother made the banner that we had people sign who attended the alumni game. He also made a booklet with quotes from those whom myself and my siblings asked to submit a few lines regarding Al.”

The presentation was at halftime.

“Mrs. Nichols sent her sons to receive the honor on behalf of their dad who was unable to attend,” Anderson said. “It was on behalf of the Baldwin alumni.”
