BALDWIN — Steelhead fishing reports at the Pere Marquette River remain favorable.

“We’ve got some fair steelhead fishing going on right now,” Jason Frank of Baldwin Bait & Tackle said. “That’s about it for the fishing front. Some of these lakes have a little bit of ice on them. I don’t think there’s anybody on the lakes just yet.

“But they’re fishing the river for steelhead. The water is low and clear. Fishing has been a little tough but should get better if the weather warms and we get some rain.”

“Doug Loomis, of Ed’s Sport Shop Baldwin, agreed.

“So far steelhead has been excellent,” he said. “There’s many fish of good size in the lower section of the river. Try beads, spawn and wax worms in the flies only section.”

“Steelhead is starting to trickle in,” Adam Aikens of the Pere Marquette River Lodge said. “We could use some rain. The water is low and clear. People are catching fish on black stone flies.”

Warm weather is expected to mean more angler numbers at the river, Aikens indicated.
