Outdoor expo/ORV event set for August

BALDWIN — The Lake County Sportsman Club and West Michigan Radio Control Fliers Association has set Aug. 14-16 as a Lake County Outdoor Expo/ORV event

“It will possibly be a ‘blessing’ but we don’t know what we’re going to call it,” sportsman club president Greg Nichols Jr. said. “We’ll have an ATV obstacle course, a mud run” and other events, Nichols indicated.

The event will be at the Baldwin Airport.

“There will be camping, a bonfire, food vendors, all kinds of stuff,” Nichols said. “The county got a grant and wants to be known as the ORV capital of Michigan. The state gave them a grant. They’ll be funding this.

“We and the radio club are sponsoring it, along with the chamber the third weekend in August. Everything is held on grounds at the airport.”

The name of the event might eventually change, Nichols added.

The Lake County Sportsman Club also will have a booth for the 34th annual Turkey Hunters Rendevous and State Calling Championships March 28 at Baldwin High School. Registration will be 8 a.m to 10 a.m., followed by the event. Calling clinics, door prizes, turkey shoot, gun raffle and a turkey dinner will be included.

The turkey shoot and dinner will be in the afternoon at the VFW Hall, north of Baldwin on M-37.
