Nichols impressed with deer hunting prospects
BALDWIN — Baldwin’s Greg Nichols Sr. has been hunting and fishing for a long time.
But he especially likes what he’s seen of this hunting season so far.
“I’ve heard there’s a lot of nice deer around this year,” he said. “I’m thinking our point rule is working out pretty well and isn’t taking too long to do it.”
He was referring to antler points restrictions so hunters couldn’t take a buck until it had fully matured and had three points on each antler side.
“I helped a friend of mine track down one, about an eight point, in the area (last week),” Nichols said. “The snow makes it so easy.”
It’s deer season, but Nichols is seeing other signs of wildlife.
“I am seeing partridge,” he said. “I’m seeing a lot of turkeys, too.”
Rifle season ended on Wednesday, but bow hunting continues through Jan. 1. There’s also the muzzleloading season Dec, 2-11 in Zone 2 and Dec. 2-18 in Zone 3.
