BALDWIN — It’s getting busy for the Lake County Sportsman’s Club.

Club members, including president Greg Nichols Jr., were at the Pere Marquette Turkey Hunters Rendezvous Saturday at Baldwin High School to inform attendees of upcoming activities.

A fish fry is set for April 24, the night before the trout season opener. It will be 6-9 p.m. at the VFW Hall and sponsored by the club.

Also set is the Lake County ORV Outdoor Expo Aug. 14-16 at the Baldwin Airport. The event will feature a mud pit, obstacle courses, youth archery shoot and a demonstration by the West Michigan Radio Fliers. “They’ll do a nice jet show for us,” Nichols said.

He noted the event will be confined to airport grounds.

“Available will be overflow camping and that kind of stuff,” he said. “Friday will be registration for all the vendors. All day Saturday and Sunday will be the events, with a possible blessing (of the ORVs).”

The fundraisers are targeted to help the club secure the funds for getting a building and ranges put up.

“We’re looking for donations for ranges, for trap and skeet shoot stuff,” Nichols said. “We’re working on a site plan. We have a meeting with the NRA (April 17). The northern Michigan rep from NRA will be here. He’ll go over site plans and different grants that will be available.

“The wheels are turning.”

Among the items the sportsman club is selling include hats, license plates, hoodies, vests and windbreakers. They can be purchased  at the  meetings 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each Monday and 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings are at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce building in downtown Baldwin. The club has an office in that building right now.
