Pastor's Pen: Are we strong enough?
Have we ever found ourselves at a point in life wondering if our faith is strong enough to see us through? We read in the Bible that when people are faced with circumstances that were overwhelming, they turned to God. His answer for them at times seemed to make no sense at all.
One such time was with Joshua, where God told him to have the people walk around Jericho for six days and on the seventh day they were to shout (Joshua 6:1-5).
Now from a military standpoint that made no sense at all, but we are told with God all things are possible.
There may be other times, when taking our concerns to God in prayer, that He is asking us to stay strong and have faith. Do we stay strong and believe, not desiring to go through some of life's situations? Do we begin to question God and our own faith and ask "Why God?"
Let's look at a few examples of some people that were allowed to go through a storm or two.
In the book of Daniel, we find two examples. One where Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were thrown into the fiery furnace, they were surrounded by flames, but God brought them out, their clothes were not even singed. Secondly, Daniel was thrown into the lion's den and was not eaten. They stayed strong in their belief and God brought them through the challenges, didn't remove them.
King David was anointed as king when he was a teenager, the keeper of his father's sheep.
Before he would be recognized as king, he went through facing a giant: the ruling King Saul tried to kill him, along with facing many other battles. He went through some major setbacks before he truly ruled as Israel's king.
The Bible is filled with normal people that believed God, even as they faced challenges that were bigger than themselves. I have mentioned but a few trials, so knowing that, we can remain faithful that God will bring us through the storms in our lives.
We are faced today with a virus that has almost shut the world down. We as a nation may be facing an era of total destruction. We are getting closer to the elections for president, and other leaders where we need to trust in God.
'Are We Strong Enough' to pray, and to listen to God and not the media? We proclaim to be 'one nation under God,' so let's let Him guide our voting and let the battle for our freedom here in the United States be His. Stop the worrying and let God lead us through this, like He has for so many others since the creation of our world.
Looking to Joshua 1:9; "This is my command -- be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
