All of the followers of Jesus Christ have had a ‘That Day’ experience. Some may have a feeling of refreshment, others could have wept, while some may be filled with feelings of amazement. Some can have a sense of confusion, not knowing what comes next? One thing for certain is at that confession of Jesus as Lord of our lives, the devil is awakened now seeing us as his enemy! On ‘That Day’ all of our past mistakes have been removed, the Blood of Jesus has washed over us cleansing our soul and spirit, our flesh however still needs some work. The flesh is where Satan will begin his attacks trying to draw us back into old habits and the desires of the old life styles. On ‘That Day’ the Holy Spirit takes up residence within us, beginning to change us from the inside out, we need only to be patient and faithful. He will lead us into a life filled with a new freedom, we only need to submit! Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” Also, the Palmist tells us in Psalm 103:12, “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” On ‘That Day’ when we actually confess and believe that Jesus died for us by showing a love like we have never known before, He has also given us the authority to use His Name against the attacks of the devil. John 16:23-24 says, “At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” Starting every day we need to remember that Jesus defeated Satan by using Scripture, we can do the same! In the Bible we are reminded that after the temptation of Jesus, Satan was still waiting for an opportune time to deceive Him, and he is waiting to do the same to us! For anyone who is reading this and has not had a ‘That Day’ experience, it can be done in five steps: Confessing Jesus as your Savior Wanting to leave your old life behind Thanking Him for forgiveness Asking Him to guide you Then thanking God for the forgiving Grace, given through Jesus satisfies Then seek a church where the Word of God is taught and there are others to stand alongside you offering support! — Ron Witbeck is an associate pastor at Resurrection Life Church in Big Rapids.
