The Mecosta County board of commissioners approved a disbursement of $100,000 of American Rescue Plan Act lost revenue replacement funds to support Angles of Action during its meeting last week.

Angels of Action, a nonprofit organization, which administers programs to alleviate childhood hunger within Mecosta County, presented a service agreement to the county requesting the initial allocation of $100,000.

According to the service agreement, the funding will be used to support their Backpack Blessings, Rock the Crock and MOVE summer lunch programs.

In September 2022, the board approved allocations from the ARPA lost revenue replacement funds to support food pantries in the county for the purpose of “alleviating and fighting hunger within the county.”

Angles of Action was approved for two allocations of $100,000 each, one in 2023 and one in 2024.

The board approved several other nonprofits for receipt of ARPA funding, stating the money should be used in ways that would positively impact as many county residents as possible. Other local nonprofits approved for funding included:

  • Our Brothers Keeper: $500,000.
  • WISE: $500,000.
  • Hope House free medical clinic: $50,000 for supplies and equipment.
  • God’s Helping Hand, Project Starburst and Manna Pantry: Each will receive $33,300 over two years to purchase food.
  • Fire Chiefs’ Association: $39,912 for safety equipment.

The county also committed $1,275,000 to county parks for upgrades and renovations, including $225,000 in support of the Dragon at Hardy Dam.
