WELLSTON — Michigan State Police Cadillac Post troopers were dispatched to a possible hostage situation with a man who was alleged to be armed with a gun on Saturday morning.

According to a news release issued Sunday morning, troopers were called at 7:12 a.m. to a residence on Lily Road east of Wellston and arrived to speak with one of the victims near the scene.

“The woman stated she and a friend were visiting the suspect, a 50-year-old Wellston man, in a shed where he lived on Lily Road. The suspect accused the women of stealing his methamphetamine,” the release states.

The man allegedly assaulted them and brandished a handgun telling them they were not free to leave, the release said.

“One of the women called her son who came to the scene. The son confronted the suspect and was able to get this mother away. The suspect then slammed the shed door with the other woman inside,” according to the release.
