LUTHER — Although the weather was cold and brisk, at least the skies were clear for the 14th annual Tailgate Chili Cookoff in Luther.

One of Luther's favorite fall time traditions, the chili cookoff draws a good attendance to downtown Luther, where Main Street is closed off for a day of fun and sampling of steamy hot homemade chili.

This year's event drew good participation for people competing for best chili. Each booth also decorated for this year's them — Halloween, which prizes were given for best use of the theme.

The proceeds of the tailgate chili cookoff benefits the Luther Days Association, celebrating the town's heritage each Fourth of July weekend with an amazing display of fireworks.
