BALDWIN — The residents of Grand Oaks Nursing Center in Baldwin had a special valentine Feb. 14 — the ladies from the Lake County Clerks and Register of Deeds Office.

Lake County clerk Patti Pacola and chief deputy clerk Tiffany Landis gave 69 carnations to the residents at Grand Oaks, the flowers being dropped off at the door due to COVID precautions, for the staff to hand out.

"In the last couple of years, we haven't had the opportunity to give love to our elders on Valentine's Day," Landis said. "This is one way to give back and show they are appreciated, even though we can't always see them."

Before COVID, the clerk's and register of deed's office would pass out flowers individually to the residents, and hope to do so on Valentine's Days to come.

"We missed the enjoyment on their faces, but the messages remain the same. We love our residents at Grand Oaks," Pacola said.
