BALDWIN  — The public is invited to enjoy a laid-back, slow-paced 1/2K S.L.A.K.R. race Saturday, June 18, in downtown Baldwin.

Standing for Slow, Lazy and Kicked-back Run, the race, hosted by the Baldwin Rotary Club, had been a hit last summer.

“We had so many compliments last year on the event and so many people expressed appreciation for hosting a run that they could join, so we thought, why not do it again," said Terri Vanias, of Baldwin Rotary Club.

Last year, nearly 60 people registered for the event, and the club is hoping to top that, this year, Vanias added.

“Rain threatened us all morning last year and then, 30 minutes before the starting pistol, the rain poured down. At 11 a.m., it stopped and the sun came out and we ended up with a rainbow. It made for a fantastic story.”

The race will begin at 11 a.m. at the corner near the Lake County Courthouse, and proceeds downtown to the Pathfinder Community Library. Registration is $25 per person. In order to receive a t-shirt and give-aways, those interested in participating must register at Racewire.com and search for 0.5K S.L.A.K.R., by Tuesday, June 14. There are no guarantees for a T-shirt after that, but people can still pay to enter and have lunch.

The registration fee includes a T-shirt, swag bag goodies, and a barbecue chicken meal with all the fixings at Wenger Pavilion after the last person finishes, whether choosing to walk, ride a bike or be pushed in a wheelchair. Prizes also will be awarded for quirkiness.

“Pinky will be bringing his magnificent trailer-grill again this year and cooking for us. It’s really a grill most guys would love to have,” Vanias said.
