1931-2015 BALDWN - Robert D. Davidson, 84, of Baldwin, passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015. He was born on Nov. 6, 1931, in Three Oaks. On June 13, 1953, he married Evelyn Meyers, his lifelong partner. Bob had many professions early in their marriage, working hard to provide for his growing family. He was employed for many years at Bendix Corporation in South Bend, Ind., while also operating and growing a large hog farm. He and Evelyn moved to Baldwin in 1975 to build a tourist business, first purchasing the Pines Motel. They then built a successful canoe rental, purchased the Baldwin Creek Motel and finally the Pines Cabins and Campground. These were all family-run businesses and many happy times were made and will be remembered. Throughout the years, he also established the Pines Fur Company, which brought him great happiness, many fond memories and decades-long friendships with his fellow trappers. Bob was a hard-working man his entire life and even served in the armed forces during the Korean War. The fur business, trapping and hunting were Bob's great passions. He began trapping as a young boy to help support his family and very much enjoyed passing these on to his son, sons-in-law and grandsons. Bob leaves behind to mourn his passing his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn; daughter, Janice (Mike) Ferris, of Buchanan;\u00a0son, Robert (Dennine) Davidson, Jr., of Baldwin; daughter, Betty (Ken) Curtice Sr., of Bitely;\u00a0and daughter, Jody (Dan) Manion, of Paris. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, Beth Spencer (Hope, John, Gabriel), of Paw Paw, Ken Curtice, Jr. (Myranda and Kendra), of Baldwin, Kyla (Scott) MacDougall (Reece, Ray, Graham), of Branch, Trisha (Joshua) Zelinski, of Traverse City, and Nicolas Manion, of Muskegon;\u00a0as well as one great-great grandson, Aiden. He is also survived by his brother, Ray (JoAnn) Davidson, of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Jacquelyn (Bonnie Gross) Davidson, of Santa Fe, N.M.; and Ruby Young. of Three Oaks. He also leaves behind a loving companion, his Jack Russell, Sara. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and John Davidson; sisters, Bette Noah and Lola Bower; and brothers, Richard and Charles Davidson. Bob's children want to thank their mother for the many years of loving care she gave their father. Services for Bob will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Verdun Funeral Home with Pastor David Stiles officiating. Family will meet visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
