Lydia Holmes

Lydia Holmes, 100, passed away on Feb. 16 in Grand Rapids after a short illness. Lydia had celebrated her 100th birthday on Christmas Day 2010 at the Bitely Community Center.

She was born in Detroit and most recently lived in Bitely.

Lydia was fun loving and enjoyed playing Euchre on Tuesdays at the St. Ann Senior Center in Baldwin and sometimes played at the Bitely Tavern on Wednesdays. She also loved her soup and tuna fish sandwiches.

Lydia is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Doyle) Stroop of Bitely; Glen and Allen Miller, nephews, of Flint; and cousins from Spring Lake. She also has many great friends in Baldwin and Traverse City that will miss her wit and smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Russell; her sister Martha; and her brother Alfred.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Bitely Community Church with a luncheon following at the church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Verdun Funeral Home in Baldwin.
