OBIT - Charles Goldammer

Charles Goldammer, 89, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, May 21, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Charles was born April 15, 1922 in Reed City, to Edward and Charlotte (Schawe) Goldammer.

Charles was a 1940 Reed City High School graduate; he worked for Michigan Bell telephone Company for 40 years, retiring in 1981. After retirement he moved from Manistee to the family cottage in Baldwin. Charles served his Country in the Army AirCorps during WW II and he was past Post Commander of the American Legion Post in Baldwin. He loved to fish, hunt, and spend time in the woods and on the lakes and rivers of Lake County. He was active with the North Lake Crime Watch, Pleasant Plains Twp., Telephone Pioneers and was a lifelong outdoorsman who was an advocate for the preservation of the Pere Marquette River.

Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years JoAnne (Miller); daughters, Carolyn Vyletel, Traverse City, and Brenda (Dean) Hobbs, Traverse City; a sister, Elaine Conrad of Reed City; eight grand children; ten great grand children; and nieces and nephews .

Charles was preceded in death by sons, baby Charles, and Mark Goldammer; two brothers, Tom,and Louis Goldammer.

Services for Mr. Goldammer will be 11 a.m. Friday May 27, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City. Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral from 10 until 11 a.m., Rev. Jeffery Potter and Rev. James Nihiser will officiate. Burial will take place later Friday at the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City.

The family asks that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Reed City.
