OBIT: Charles Edward DeScott III

Idlewild resident and community supporter Charles Edward DeScott III made his transition on Friday, June 3, 2011 after a lengthy illness Until his health began to fail, Charles was very active with his church, the Historic First Baptist Church of Idlewild, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons Board. He was also a faithful member of the local community choir “The Encouragers” and of the men’s group, “Men of Purpose.” In 2005, Charles made Idlewild his permanent home when he moved to the community to take care of his mother and to help run the family store until it was sold.

Prior to moving to Idlewild, Charles lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Grand Rapids where he worked for many years as a skilled Drafter and Contract Builder. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army and served several years as a 32nd Degree Mason.

Whether it was conducting church business, singing with the choir, supporting local events and programs or traveling throughout mid-Michigan for medical visits, Charles maintained a positive upbeat attitude about his life and his commitment to service in Lake County. His presence is greatly missed.

Charles is survived by his mother Evelyn DeScott; two sisters, Susdie Hyche and Sharon Richardson; one brother, Carl DeScott; two sons, Steven and David; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; special friends, Alfreda Fisher, Steve Randolph, Sam Braden and Erlinda Estick; and a host of other family members and friends.

A memorial service for Charles Edward DeScott III will be held Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Historic First Baptist Church of Idlewild which is located at 7552 S. Forman Road, between Baldwin Road and 68th Street in Idlewild.
