Miss Ludington Area Scholarship pageant extends to Lake County

LAKE COUNTY — Young ladies in Lake County will now have a chance to compete for Miss Michigan as well as earn up to $3,000 in scholarships and awards, thanks to an expansion with the Miss Ludington Area Scholarship Program.

Since the program began in 2009, it included Mason, Manistee and Oceana counties, and now the Miss Ludington Area Board of Directors announced they are thrilled to expand their program to Lake County.

These counties are represented at the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant each June in Muskegon, the winner of the Miss Michigan Program then becoming eligible to compete for Miss America.

"It's time that we expand our current offerings to include Lake County, it's overdue," said Executive Director Shelby Soberalksi. "When looking at other initiatives currently happening in our communities, it just made sense to expand. We are thrilled to give young women of Lake County a rewarding and impactful opportunity to further their education with scholarships and the platform to succeed."

The program is open to young women aged 18-26 who live or go to school in Mason, Manistee, Oceana and Lake counties.

Applications are accepted through Aug. 27 to compete for the title of Miss Ludington Area 2023, which will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Ludington Center for the Arts.

Contestants will compete in talent, evening wear, on-stage interview and social impact initiative for a chance to win the Miss Ludington Area 2023 title and a chance to win nearly $3,000 in scholarships and awards.
