Millard Orland Johnson


Millard Orland Johnson, 95, of Grand Haven, formerly of Cedar Springs and Baldwin, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community. Millard was born July 16, 1918 to Emil and Bessie (Pepper) Johnson in Lake County. He married Avis Shaddock on October 25, 1939.

Millard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Prior to being a mail carrier, Millard was a switchman for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Millard enjoyed traveling, camping, music and square dancing. He also enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader, and enjoyed hands on participating in one-eighth scale railroading.

Millard is survived by his daughters, Janice (E. John) Trimberger of Leroy, and Karen (Randy) Childs of Georgetown, TX; son, Wayne (Diane) Johnson of Grand Haven; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; 6 sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; close childhood friend, Robert Camfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis; brother, Donald and step-father, Herman Merrill. A private family service will take place in Lilley Township Cemetery at a later date. Please visit to sign Millard’s on-line guestbook or share a memory with his family.
