BALDWIN — The Lake County Modelers and Flyers Association will host their annual Midwest Jet Pilot’s “Boondoggle” Aug. 18-20, at the Baldwin RC Park, on the Baldwin Municipal Airport grounds.

The event is free for spectators. Spectator hours are from noon to 5 p.m., Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Bring chairs, a cooler, sunscreen and the family to the park for a fun-filled day watching some of the best RC pilots in the USA displaying and flying their model RC jets and mingling with the jet pilots on Pit Row.

Approximately 35 RC jet pilots fielding over 100 turbine jets are expected to participate in the event. Onsite food service will be available.

LCMFA is a 501c3 organization that annually conducts at least four major events at the Baldwin Municipal Airport. It was established 10 years ago to promote remote control modeling, increase tourism to the Baldwin area and establish school and other programs for the local community.

LCMFA typically has around 100 members. Its “field” is located at the Baldwin Municipal Airport. The organization conducts free flight training from 6:30 p.m. until dark on Sunday and Wednesday evenings, weather permitting, at the Baldwin RC Park.

The Baldwin RC Park has two turf runways — one with a three-hundred-foot fiber mat for planes with smaller wheels, an RC car track, a rock crawler track, and the main event area, which has a 3800 foot asphalt runway and a 400 foot asphalt pit row.

Over the last 10 years, LCMFA members and local supporters have spent over $100,000 making the Baldwin RC Park a world class attraction for all types of RC enthusiasts. LCMFA events typically draw RC pilots from KY, TN, IL, IN, OH, PA, WI as well as all over Michigan. The last jet event also brought in folks from as far away as Florida.
