The Michigan Department of Natural Resources hunting and fishing app, launched in July, is available for download to Apple and Android devices, the agency announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Released after months of development, the free Michigan DNR Hunt Fish app offers a convenient way for outdoor enthusiasts to buy hunting and fishing licenses and trail permits, report harvests, look up regulations and maps and get timely notifications from the agency.

"I like the app; it’s easy to use and has everything right there," Mike Koziara, owner of MQT Adventures and Guide Service in the Upper Peninsula, said in the release.

Internet access is needed for some features of the app including making purchases, reporting harvests, downloading guides and digests, checking points and drawing results and viewing a map of DNR locations. But users can view all license purchases and downloaded guides or digests regardless of internet connectivity.

With some hunting digests, like the waterfowl and fall turkey digests, not being printed this year, the app "provides a convenient way to get information about hunting regulations and seasons," according to the DNR in the release.

"With hunting seasons just around the corner, the app couldn't have launched at a better time," Tom Weston, DNR chief technology officer, said in the release. "It has never been easier to get DNR licenses and information – download the free app and get a one-stop shop at your fingertips, plus an onX maps discount."

A 30% discount to onX digital hunting maps is available to people who download the Michigan DNR Hunt Fish app and sign up for notifications by Sept. 14, according to the agency. On Sept. 15, they should receive the discount through an in-app notification.

The Michigan DNR Hunt Fish app is available on the App Store for Apple devices. And on the Google Play store for Android devices.
