Michigan is one of the last Midwest states to get a Jollibee, a popular Philippines-based fast-food chain.

With 1,400 Jollibee stores worldwide, it's one of the largest and fastest-growing Asian restaurant companies in the world and it's coming to Michigan soon, according to the company.

Jollibee is slated to open its first Michigan location inside a former Denny's near Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Crain's Detroit Business reported.

The plans, first announced at a city council meeting in August reported by the Sterling Heights Sentry, call for tearing down the Denny's at 44945 Woodridge Dr. and building a 2,500-square-foot building. The new Jollibee is expected to have a drive-thru and outdoor patio seating.

In the meeting, Sterling Heights Senior Economic Development Adviser Luke Bonner predicted that Jollibee fans from all over the region will be flocking to it.

“I’m guessing that the lines will be significantly long when it finally opens, similar to Portillo’s,” Bonner said in the meeting, reported by Sterling Heights Sentry.

The chain's eclectic menu selections include fried chicken, spaghetti and peach mango pies. You can view the full menu here

Founded in 1978,  the chain is known for putting a Filipino twist on American dishes, like fried chicken, burgers and spaghetti (topped with a sweet sauce, ham and hot dog). The company has been rapidly expanding in recent months, including at least 20 new stores in North America, according to reporting by Detroit Metro Times

Additionally, Jollibee plans to reach 300 locations across North America by 2024, far beyond the 12 states and four Canadian provinces in which it currently resides.

"We have remained nimble and optimistic, which has led Jollibee to defy expectations amidst an extremely difficult year and experience double-digit sales growth across North America," Maribeth Dela Cruz, president of Jollibee Group North America, said in a release last year. "We're … thrilled to deliver a small spark of joy as we enter the holiday season."
