MSU Extension to offer cooking class

Learn how to shop for and cook healthy, nutritious meals

BALDWIN — Hollister Senior Center will host a Cooking Matters one-time presentation from 2 – 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.18, presented by MSU Extension Community Nutrition Program. 

Participants will learn to prepare an easy old-fashioned fall favorite and take home groceries for the recipe learned in class. 

Registration is open to all Lake County seniors and space is limited. To reserve a spot call 231-745-6965. 

Cooking Matters for Adults is a nutrition program whereby participants learn how to eat nutritious food, cook, and grocery shop on a limited budget. Participants receive take-home food, which they can use at home to practice a recipe they learned in class. The class also includes:

  • Participatory food preparation that provides cooking and food safety instruction
  • Engaging in nutrition activities and discussions
  • Practice with food budgeting
  • Recipe book for use at home

Cooking Matters hands-on courses serve limited-resource families and offer one-time presentations, as well as six-week-long cooking courses to parents, families, adults, food pantries, and childcare providers.
