Luther Lions hosts monthly Feed America food giveaway

LUTHER — With the rising cost of groceries and basic necessities, members of the Luther Lions Club know how important it is for families to keep food on the table.

One of their community outreaches is coordinating Feed America food giveaways, as well as raising money to help fund this service.

On Sept. 15, 343 individuals had an opportunity to collectively receive more than 6,000 pounds of food.

"Today we fed 148 families," said Luther Lions member Dennis Karczynski. "Twenty-two volunteers from the Luther Lions Club gave onions, potatoes, carrots, plums, peaches, strawberries, mushrooms, grapes and cabbage from 2:30 to 4:40 at the Luther Lions Club Hall."

Karczynski said the Lions host this food drive nearly once a month, and the next one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Luther Lions Hall.

"Our fundraising dinners and breakfasts as well as other events pay for this," he added.
