LUTHER — After the devastating fire this past July which completely destroyed Luther Grocery, the big undertaking of cleaning up the rubble from the property was accomplished, with thanks to the persistence of owner Scott Lucas and the generosity of the community.

Cleanup began the week of Nov. 27, and was completed Dec. 8.

"The Luther Grocery cleanup is finished. Great job by Quad A Excavating LLC. We still don't know about a rebuild yet, but are extremely happy to have our cleanup done," Lucas said.

The fire, which occurred Tuesday, July 12, shocked people from the community and the surrounding areas, and even before the flames were distinguished, people rallied together to raise money to help with cleanup.

The store did have some insurance, but not a lot, and had to wait from a go-ahead from the insurance company to begin cleanup.

The fire was estimated to have begun in the ceiling area of Luther Grocery, but cause had not been determined.

The flames also caused destruction to the Luther Hardware and post office.
